News Notes: 24-January-2003:
A couple of recent emails, one from a Shultz's Crabhouse family member,
indicates that the restaurant no longer allows smoking in the dining
room (only at the bar). A big plus. I don't recall the exact layout,
and whether the bar area is close enough to the dining room to be a
problem, but it sounds like diners who have a big problem with smoke
could give Schultz's another try. A second email praised the quality
of food and service (and as I noted in my original review, we did think the food
was very good). So, crab/shrimp lovers, give it another shot.
Personal Review: August 1998 :
This is another crab house we tried many years ago. We joined a group of
our neighbors for an evening dinner here. The main item on the table was
steamed shrimp, and from what I recall, it was very good. I believe we also
tried some of the crab cakes and stuffed shrimp. All pretty good.
However, we have never been back. Why? It was so horribly smoky in this restaurant, that both my wife and I got sick. By the time we got home, our clothes were so full of smoke that we had to take them off and wash everything, then take a shower to try to kill the stench. Being allergic, I became so sick I was out of work for the next day or two. I just don't understand such places subjecting patrons who enjoy the food and/or atmosphere to such incredibly serious health risks. Obviously, our decision was to never return to Schultz's, regardless how good they were.
