A Celestial Landscape in Celebration of 10 Years of Stunning Hubble Heritage Images |

The landmark 10th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope's Hubble Heritage Project is being celebrated with a 'landscape' image from the cosmos. Cutting across a nearby star-forming region, called NGC 3324, are the "hills and valleys" of gas and dust displayed in intricate detail. Set amid a backdrop of soft, glowing blue light are wispy tendrils of gas as well as dark trunks of dust that are light-years in height. NGC 3324 is located in the constellation Carina, about 7,200 light-years away from Earth. This image is a composite of data taken with two of Hubble's science instruments. Data taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) in 2006 isolated light emitted by hydrogen. More recent data, taken in 2008 with the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2), isolated light emitted by sulfur and oxygen gas. To create a color composite, the data from the sulfur filter are represented by red, from the oxygen filter by blue, and from the hydrogen filter by green. |

Spring Symposium 2008
The universe is more complex than we imagined it to be a decade ago. Observations now indicate that the expansion of
the universe is accelerating. It is as if the universe is filled with a sea of "dark energy," the pressure of which
counteracts the pull of gravity on large scales. The past decade marked the discovery of dark energy and the revelation
of our profound ignorance of the cosmos, and dark-energy research over the next decade may well lead the way to a deeper
understanding of the laws of physics. The Space Telescope Science Institute's 2008 Spring Symposium, "A Decade of Dark Energy", will focus on cutting-edge issues in the study

Hubble Servicing Mission 4
Hubble precisely measured the age of the universe. It found evidence of dark energy. It brought you images of distant
galaxies in the young universe. And now, with the state-of-the-art instruments delivered by Servicing Mission 4 (SM4),
the Hubble Space Telescope will look onto the universe with new eyes, surpassing even its previous vision. Hubble was
designed to be repaired and upgraded by astronauts, and these servicing missions have occurred several times since
Hubble’s launch in 1990. NASA has selected a crew for the upcoming servicing, and the astronauts have begun

Call for Papers on Lunar Science with HST
In November 2006, STScI hosted a workshop entitled "Astrophysics Enabled by the Return to the Moon" in support of NASA's Vision
for Space Exploration. STScI is now interested in exploring opportunities for lunar science programs that utilize the Hubble
Space Telescope (HST) in conjunction with a new Lunar Science Initiative that will involve at least 30 orbits of telescope
time during the upcoming Cycle 18. White papers outlining potential science programs that would make use of this time are

with a special emphasis on attracting women and other underrepresented groups, to spend up to three months at the Space Telescope
