JWST Proposal Planning Workshop
Sunday, June 4
8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. MDT
Registration fee: $50.00
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is revolutionizing our understanding of the universe with its unprecedented sensitivity and angular resolution at infrared wavelengths. This workshop will provide an overview of the JWST proposal and planning tools with a specific focus on the Exposure Time Calculator (ETC) and the Astronomer’s Proposal Tool (APT). In addition to seeing guided demonstrations, participants will take part in hands-on sessions and exercises to plan observations for selected science cases and observing modes. At the end of the workshop, a participant will be ready to use the JWST proposal tools to develop and submit a General Observer proposal.
Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
JWST Town Hall
Monday, June 5, 2023
6:30 - 7:30 p.m. (MDT)
At the time of the 242nd summer AAS, the James Webb Space Telescope will have been gathering science data for almost a full year. We will have a complete picture of the science the observatory is capable of, and a new understanding of its operational efficiency. With new science results appearing at a rapid rate, the scientific community is now fully engaged with realizing the scientific potential of the observatory. In this town hall, we will review submission and selection statistic from Cycle 2, discuss the first trending metrics from a year of science operations, provide an overview of the JWST news process, and look forward to the upcoming Cycle 3 call for proposals. There will be ample time for questions from the community.
