NASA's Hubble Views a Cosmic Skyrocket

A very wispy deep blue jet of gas extends from bottom right to top left. It’s made up of curls, or half circles, and other irregular shapes. It’s more blue-green and thinner at far right. The black background of space is dotted with stars and galaxies of various sizes across the frame.

Summary

Resembling a Fourth of July skyrocket, Herbig-Haro 110 is a geyser of hot gas from a newborn star that splashes up against and ricochets from the dense core of a cloud of molecular hydrogen. This image was taken with Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys in 2004 and 2005 and the Wide Field Camera 3 in April 2011.
