NIRSpec Observation Visualization Tool (NOVT) Version 2.3.0 Released

January 12, 2018

About This Article

The JWST NIRSpec Observation Visualization Tool (NOVT) is a Python application that provides a simultaneous view of both NIRSpec and NIRCam fields of view at a given sky position, for assistance in planning NIRCam pre-imaging for NIRSpec.

The latest version (2.3.0) of this application has two new features:

  1. It is now possible to display a new NIRCam dither pattern called 8NIRSPEC which is specifically designed to cover the MSA field of view using an 8 point dither pattern with a span of 5 x 6 square arcmin. This pattern was made available in APT version 25.4.
  2. The application displays all of the NIRSpec apertures at once (i.e., the four MSA quadrants, the IFU aperture, and five fixed slit apertures.)
The NIRSpec Observation Visualization Tool (NOVT) provides a simultaneous view of both NIRSpec and NIRCam fields of view.
