About This Article

The JWST Exposure Time Calculator (ETC) version 2.0 is now live. This release features accuracy updates based on inflight measurements, simultaneous NIRCam coronagraphic imaging, workbook folders, and other updates, specifically:

  • Significant accuracy updates to the throughputs and point spread functions (PSFs) for all 4 science instruments (MIRI, NIRCam, NIRISS, NIRSpec), the optical telescope element (OTE) throughput, thermal background model, and stray light models based on inflight measurements.
  • A reworked NIRCam coronagraphic imaging mode that accounts for the complexities of simultaneous use of the short- and long-wavelength channels, which is being offered in Cycle 2.
  • The addition of folders to the Available Workbooks page for improved workbook organization.
  • A reorganized Reports tab with an expanded list of quantities for evaluating calculation results.
  • An expanded list of standard template spectra and the ability to renormalize these spectra in bluer bandpasses, which previously resulted in errors.

See the release notes for details, and be sure to review the known issues for this release. Instructions for downloading the new version of the Pandeia engine and the associated data are found in the JWST Documentation and the Pandeia Engine News page.
