Pipeline News: Build 13.0 of the Science Calibration Pipeline Is Now Available

September 10, 2026

About This Article

On September 8, 2026, version 3.0.0 of the JWST Calibration Pipeline was made operational as a part of Build 13.0. This build will be used to process all new data obtained by the observatory and to reprocess all existing archival data, which takes about 4 to 5 weeks. Users can also reprocess their own data immediately using Build 13.0 and associated reference files. New calibration reference files will be used automatically with the updated software. Please use the MAST subscription service to receive notifications when the data has been reprocessed.

Build 13.0 fixes several outstanding known issues, offers new tools to help address others, and continues development of multiple new observing modes. A full list of improvements for this build can be found in JDox on the Operations Pipeline Build pages, along with a list of known issues and future improvements. Highlights for this build include:

  • Support for new observing modes: superstripe readout for NIRCam imaging, FASTGRPAVG readout for MIRI, new subarrays for MIRI, and new reference files to support NIRISS SOSS multistripe observations.
  • An optional new persistence step to flag pixels affected by persistence from prior integrations and exposures.
  • An update to the NIRSpec IFU distortion solution to fix issues related to spectral ‘wander’ of PSF centroids.
  • An extension of the optional adaptive_trace_model step to work with slit and NIRSpec MOS spectroscopy.
  • Multiple default configuration changes, including applying deblending to imaging source catalogs, applying 1/f correction for NIRSpec BOTS and fixed-slit observations, and using autocentroiding to improve the quality of point source spectra extracted from NIRSpec IFU.
