All proposals are due Thursday, April 16, 2026 by 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
End callout
We are pleased to announce that the Cycle 34 Call for Proposals for Hubble Space Telescope (HST) General Observer (GO), Snapshot (SNAP), and Archival Research (AR) programs opened on Friday, December 12. Proposals are due no later than Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
All programmatic and technical information, as well as specific guidelines for proposal preparation, are available on the STScI Proposal Opportunities and Science Policies web page, including the HST Cycle 34 Call for Proposals, HST Primer, and HST Phase I Proposal Roadmap. The Astronomer's Proposal Tool (APT), which is required for Phase I Proposal Submission, will be made available for Cycle 34 Phase I use by January 2026.
Proposers are strongly encouraged to refer to the What’s New for Cycle 34 section, which summarizes new initiatives, policies, and operational developments, including:
- The Habitable Worlds Observatory Precursor Science Initiative
- The Hubble–Roman Science Initiative
- The policy for the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- The strict Phase I proposal deadline, which will align with the APT portal closing
Late-breaking news will be posted on the HST Call for Proposals page.
We anticipate allocating up to 2,700 HST orbits in Cycle 34, divided proportionately among Very Small, Small, Medium, and Large/Treasury programs, depending on proposal pressure.
We invite all scientists to submit proposals. This opportunity is open to scientists based at domestic and foreign educational institutions, for-profit and nonprofit organizations, NASA Centers, and other government agencies.
The Cycle 34 Telescope Allocation Committee will meet in June 2026, with selections announced in late July 2026. Cycle 34 will extend from November 1, 2026 to October 31, 2027.
Questions may be submitted to the HST help desk.
