The Hubble Deep Field South

October 13, 1998: Observations of the southern Hubble Deep Field completed successfully on October 10; a few of the flanking field observations will trickle in as late as October 29. No significant problems were encountered, and the data reduction is well underway. The raw and reduced data will be released on November 23. HDFS Field CTIO 4m R image of the HDFS area

The R band 3000 seconds exposure was taken by A. Walker with the 4m Blanco telescope at CTIO. The image shows the FOVs of STIS, WFPC2 and NICMOS. North is up and East is left.
