Matthew Siebert is a STScI Fellow working with the STIS/HST team. He is also a current member of the Transient Science at Space Telescope (TSST) team, where his research primarily focuses on the spectroscopy of Type Ia supernovae and their host galaxies. He is particularly interested in probing the physics of these phenomena in order to improve our cosmological distance measurements. He built the SQL database (Kaepora) to facilitate this research. He received his PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics in 2022 at UCSC under the advisement of Professor Ryan J. Foley. He is generally interested in astronomical transients and has used a large variety of ground- and space-based resources to obtain their follow-up observations. He has supported this work by developing a spectroscopic reduction pipeline tailored for optical observations of transients.
