The optical fluxes will be combined with infrared adaptive optics measurements to provide spectral energy distributions covering 0.5-2.2 microns, which includes more than 90% of the total fluxes for these objects. The separations and position angles will be used to convert our ground-based astrometry of the photocentric orbits into relative orbits with critical mass ratios that will then yield unprecedented mass measurements for each component. The 18 carefully characterized objects will comprise a fundamental set of standards that will stress-test theoretical models of the smallest stars and brown dwarfs for years to come. The results will be combined with our previous mass-luminosity relation work for stars with masses 0.10-0.60 Msun to extend our understanding of masses down to 0.05 Msun. We will then have a map covering a factor of more than 10 in mass for the most common objects in the Galaxy. Each of the nine binaries will be observed during a single HST orbit in five filters with WFC3-UVIS. For each binary, the goal is to obtain accurate counts for both the primary and secondary in each filter. Integration times have been chosen to be 50% of the anticipated saturation when possible, although for the faintest targets we do not have sufficient time in a single orbit to reach this level. We also wish to measure the separations and position angles of the binaries, so frames with both sources unsaturated are ideal. To increase the number of frames available for astrometry (and photometry), additional frames are included in F555W when they fit in a given orbit.
