      <Title>The Orion Experiment</Title>
      
      <Abstract>We propose to carry out a systematic theoretical exploration of the dynamical evolution of a star cluster that is designed to resemble the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC) and its surroundings as closely as possible. This includes matching the currently observed stellar masses, spatial distributions, velocity distributions, binary properties and background gas potentials. These properties are constrained by a wealth of observational data, especially HST Treasury program data and SDSS-APOGEE data. We will utilize modified version of the NBODY6 and AMUSE codes for these experiments. The main goal is to understand how the present stellar properties constrain theories of star and star cluster formation, including the degree of initial virialization of the stars, their initial spatial and kinematic substructure, and the rate at which they form compared to the free-fall time of the cluster. We will also explore whether massive stars tend to form relatively early or late compared to lower-mass stars and whether they tend to form closer to the cluster center.</Abstract>
