Vaiana ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Abstract We propose joint XMM-Newton (30ks) and HST observations (3 orbits) of the nearby K young star V1298 Tau (~20Myr) hosting four transiting exoplanets discovered with Kepler (K2), and included in a follow-up optical/IR campaign with HARPS-N and GIANO-B@TNG. These young planets have radii between 5.6 and 10.3 R Earth and they are located between 0.08 and ~0.3 AU from the host. They are still experiencing the contraction phase toward their final sizes and are subject to photoevaporation effects at different rates. Our immediate objective is to reconstruct the full XUV spectrum, and to assess the spectral and time variability of the host star. In this way we will characterize its activity level and the dose of highenergy radiation received by those very young planets. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Observations Description ------------------------ We ask observations with HST/COS joint and simultaneous with XMM-Newton observations of the young K-type star V1298 Tau. We aim to acquire high resolution spectra in the band 1180 - 1450 Angstrom with the G130M grating (central wavelength of 1291 Angstrom) during 3 HST orbits. The declination of the star ensures an average HST visibility of 54' per orbit, available for science exposures. We intend to measure the intensity of ion lines from Si II, Si III, Si IV, CII 16490( 6) - 29-Jun-2021 12:07:04 - [ 2] , CIII, NV falling in the above wavelength range. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 16490( 6) - 29-Jun-2021 12:07:04 - [ 3] TARGET LIST Fixed Targets ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tar| Target | Target | Target |Coord | Radial | Flux data No | Name | Description | Position |Eqnx | Vel. | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 V1298-TAU STAR, CORONA, RA=04H05M19.5912S +/- J2000 V = 10.12 EXTRA-SOLAR PLANETARY 0.0000554", DEC=+20D09'25.56" SYSTEM, K V-IV +/- 0.0000211" Reference Frame: ICRS Extended: NO Epoch of Position RA proper motion (seconds of time/yr) DEC Proper Motion (arcsec/yr) Annual Parallax (arcsec) 2015.5 3.9506381137336733E-4 -0.016077 0.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 16490( 6) - 29-Jun-2021 12:07:04 - [ 4] Visit: 01 Visit Requirements: VISIBILITY INTERVAL 51.5 M On Hold Comments: Additional Comments: Exposures ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Exp | Target | Instr | Oper. | Aper |Spectral|Central| Optional |Num| Time | Special Num | Name | Config | Mode | or FOV |Element |Waveln.| Parameters |Exp| (Total) | Requirements ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 V1298-TAU COS/NUV ACQ/IMA BOA MIRRORA 1 65 S (65 GE S) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2 V1298-TAU COS/FUV TIME-TA PSA G130M 1291 BUFFER-TIME=1155, FLASH=YES, 1 2316 S G FP-POS=3 see below (2249 S) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3 V1298-TAU COS/FUV TIME-TA PSA G130M 1291 BUFFER-TIME=1296, FLASH=YES, 1 2701 S G FP-POS=3 see below (2634 S) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4 V1298-TAU COS/FUV TIME-TA PSA G130M 1291 BUFFER-TIME=1296, FLASH=YES, 1 2701 S G FP-POS=4 see below (2634 S) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sub Exposures ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Target | Exp |Instr | Oper. | Aper |Spectral|Cent.|Primary |Secondary |Iteration |CR-SPLIT |Orbit |Duration Name | Num |Config | Mode | or FOV |Element |Wave.|Pattern Pos |Pattern Pos |Num |Num |Number | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ V1298-TAU 1 COS/NUV ACQ/IMA BOA MIRRORA none none none none 1 N/A GE V1298-TAU 2 COS/FUV TIME-TA PSA G130M 1291 none none none none 1 2249.0 S G V1298-TAU 3 COS/FUV TIME-TA PSA G130M 1291 none none none none 2 2634.0 S G V1298-TAU 4 COS/FUV TIME-TA PSA G130M 1291 none none none none 3 2634.0 S G 16490( 6) - 29-Jun-2021 12:07:04 - [ 5] Summary Form for Proposal 16490 Item Used in this proposal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Apertures BOA, PSA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Configurations COS/FUV, COS/NUV ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Opmodes ACQ/IMAGE, TIME-TAG ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Optional Parameters BUFFER-TIME=1155, BUFFER-TIME=1296, FLASH=YES, FP-POS=3, FP-POS=4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Special Requirements VISIBILITY INTERVAL 51.5 M ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Spectral Elements G130M, MIRRORA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Target Names V1298-TAU ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
