Meyer University of Michigan N CoI: Dr. Matthew De Furio University of Texas at Austin N ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Abstract Thanks to the extraordinary lifetime of the HST, we have today a unique opportunity of unraveling the fascinating dynamics of the Orion Nebula with its elusive multitude of jets, Herbig-Haro objects, shocks etc that fill the region, all tracers of a violent early epoch where newborn stars endure the rapid destruction of their parental clouds by their high mass companions. While previous proper motions studies have focused on the nebular core region, two large HST programs, GO9460 and GO10246 have covered almost simultaneosuly the Extended Orion Nebula, an area about 15 times larger, in Halpha around year 2004, but no second epoch as yet been taken. Twenty years later, this observation is now critically needed before HST completes his lifetime. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Observations Description ------------------------ We use ACS/WFC with the F658N and WFC3/UVIS with the F656N filter in parallel to maximize the observing efficiency, covering most of the field that required more than 50 orbits with the early ACS surveys in just 28 orbits. We verified that in Reduced Gyro Mode the original orientation angles used by the ACS surveys are no more accessible. The best Position Angle that maximizes schedulability is 300deg and the pattern that maximizes observing efficiency is shown in Fig. 3 with ACS and WFC3 in color purple and blue, respectively.
