Description of proposed observations. The goal of these observations is to obtain high resolution of the asteroid Vesta. Several frames will be taken to a) aid in discerning surface details from artifacts caused by the detector system and the analysis procedure, and b) to cover a maximum fraction of the Vesta surface. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. Only the FOC at the new f/96 (i.e. f/151) provides the required resolution. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Asteroids have to be observed close to opposition. We expect to work closely with the schedulers at the ST ScI. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10. Resources to be supplied by investigator's institution(s).
