Abstract We propose to obtain a 1300Angstrom\ to 1700Angstrom\ spectrum of HD44179, the central star of the Red Rectangle Nebula, with GHRS using the G140L grating. With this spectrum, it will be possible to resolve and derive accurate wavelengths and strengths of the various unidentified absorption and emission features, and should enable us to identify the molecules responsible for them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Observations Description ------------------------ Two exposures with the G140L grating will be required to cover the spectral region from 1300Angstrom\ to 1700Angstrom. We estimate the exposure time for a S/N=25 at 55 minutes for 1415Angstrom\ to 1700Angstrom, and 55 minutes from 1300Angstrom\ to 1585Angstrom. Thus, three full orbits will be required.
