Abstract Recent analyses indicate discrepancies between measured upper limits for the diffuse UV background and predicted values from unresolved or very faint extragalactric source contributions. We will perform an archival study of WFPC2 UV images (F160BW and F218W) to study this question. Specifically, we shall identify systematically all the sources in these images, and shall determine the level of the diffuse UV background in both bands. The latter, in conjunction with available HI and/or FIR data, will yield the level of the extragalactic UV background, or the best limit yet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Data Distribution Media: ELECTRONIC Blocking Factor: 10 Ship To: PI_Address Ship Via: Email: , ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7541( 1) - 12/14/96 00:51 - [ 1] Summary Form for Proposal 7541 Item Used in this proposal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Proposal Category AR ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Scientific Category COSMOLOGY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
