Abstract To observe the active galaxy NGC 1275 for a Hubble Heritage release. We plan to obtain a two-orbit I-band image that will be combined with archival B and R-band images of the same object, to result in a 3-color image. The data will become non- proprietary once the color image has been released (assumed to be within a few months of the observations). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9250( 4) - 09/27/01 09:39 - [ 2] Observations Description ------------------------ We wish to create a three-color image of NGC 1275. By exposing in F814W, I- band, and combining the data with archival R- and B-band images (Proposal 6228), we hope to achieve a relatively line-free continuum image of NGC1275. This will provide excellent contrast to the existing R and B images, which both have significant amounts of emission line contamination in them. In the resultant broadband image, the stars and starlight will stand out and the galaxy's the dust lanes will be prominent as absorption features. We will be matching the previous observation coordinates and orient. We are not concerned about the AGN nucleus saturating in the I-band. In the previous archival data, F450W (4900 sec) and F702W (4500 sec) it was placed on the PC chip and only saturated by a few pixels. There is a significant forground star in WF4 that appears somehwat brighter than the AGN nucleus and slightly red, however we are not concerned with the saturation amount of that star either.
