Abstract We propose to apply our optimal photometry and photometric redshift techniques to all available space- and ground-based observations of the UDF. We further propose to develop and apply an extension of our techniques to optimally detect and identify transient point sources (i.e. supernovae) using all available time- and wavelength- sampled observations of the UDF. Our primary scientific objectives are (1) to trace faint galaxies to low surface brightness limits in order to assess the effects of cosmological surface brightness dimming on the rest-frame ultraviolet luminosity density of the universe versus redshift and (2) to measure the supernova rate density versus magnitude and redshift to very faint magnitudes and very high redshifts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9938( 1) - 04/04/03 10:25 - [ 2] Summary Form for Proposal 9938 Item Used in this proposal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Proposal Category AR ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
