Hubble’s Space Telescope Users Committee (STUC) met virtually in December 2025. Topics included mission and instrument statuses, updates about the budget, and science-ready products and tools. Of special note was the very high probability that Hubble will continue to generate unique, impactful science into the 2030s. The STUC will deliver a full report with recommendations based on the information presented.
In the second half of 2025, STScI staff supported Hubble, Webb, Roman, the Habitable Worlds Observatory, and MAST to enable research. We also continued to produce products that communicate these missions’ scientific discoveries. STScI recently completed the proposal review and telescope allocation process for Hubble Cycle 33. As always, we were impressed by the extremely high quality of the proposals, the compelling science, and the dedication, commitment, and integrity of all those involved. The latest Hubble Spectroscopic Legacy Archive (HSLA) release now automatically defines individual targets, groups multiple observations of a single target into associations, and produces a classification for each target. HSLA also provides a human-readable metadata file for each target with key information that can be used to search and further explore the available spectra from the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) and the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS).
Nine targets have been officially selected for the Rocky Worlds Director’s Discretionary Time (DDT) program, and the scheduling is underway. Learn why Webb and Hubble are observing terrestrial planets that orbit M-dwarf stars and what these DDT observations mean for long-term exoplanet research.
