General Observers Programs
General Observers (GO) programs provide the worldwide astronomical community with opportunities to apply for observation time with JWST in a given cycle (generally 1 year in duration). GO proposals may be submitted for any amount of observing time, counted in hours, including all overheads. GO proposals for Cycles 1-3 are classified as Small (≤ 25 hours), Medium (> 25 and ≤ 75 hours), and Large (> 75 hours). Starting with Cycle 4, GO proposals are classified as Very Small (≤ 20 hours), Small (> 20 and ≤ 50 hours), Medium (> 50 and ≤ 130 hours), and Large (> 130 hours). A variety of proposal types include:
- Treasury
- Calibration
- Survey
- Archival research
