The NASA Hubble Fellowship Program recently named 24 new fellows to its 2025 class. The NHFP fosters excellence and leadership in astrophysics by supporting exceptionally promising and innovative early-career astrophysicists. STScI administers the program on behalf of NASA, in collaboration with two other institutions.
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) recently elected Dr. Carol Christian, Hubble Space Telescope Outreach Project Scientist at STScI, an AAAS Fellow. This is a lifetime honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers for their efforts to advance science or its applications.
STScI completed the proposal review and telescope allocation process for JWST Cycle 4 GO/AR, scheduled to begin July 1, 2025. Cycle 4 will encompass approximately 8,500 hours of prime observations, during which JWST will continue to push the frontier of our knowledge further into the unknown.
The Space Telescope Science Institute's 2024 Annual Report is now live! This publication not only reflects the work and milestones of our staff but also demonstrates how our 850-plus community members contribute their talents and expertise to help STScI serve both astronomers and the public.

Find out where the targets are on the sky, what instruments are being used to gather the data, and what questions researchers hope to answer.
Recollect, STScI’s new digital collections portal, features thousands of digital materials that capture key administrative, scientific, and technical information. Previously internal-only resources, now many of STScI’s non-confidential assets will be available to the public for the first time. Recollect will launch on April 24, 2025, the Hubble Space Telescope’s 35th birthday.
STScI congratulates our own Rick White, who was recently named an American Astronomical Society (AAS) 2025 Fellow! This recognition is bestowed on less than 0.5% of AAS’s membership each year. Fellows are selected for original research and publications, innovative contributions to astronomical techniques or instrumentation, significant contributions to education and public outreach, and noteworthy service.
Members of STScI will participate in the 245th Meeting of the American Astronomical Society (AAS) January 12–16 at National Harbor, Maryland. Throughout the week, STScI will be involved in a wide variety of workshops, science and technical presentations, press releases, press conferences, an exhibit booth, and talks at the NASA Hyperwall.
Hubble’s Space Telescope Users Committee (STUC) met in person in December 2024. Topics included mission status, new opportunities for Cycle 33, and updates on the budget process for Hubble. Of special note was the telescope’s extraordinary scientific productivity. The STUC will deliver a full report with recommendations based on the information presented.
