My interests lie in the area of cool stars and galactic structure. Much of my work is a survey of the southern galactic plane for cool supergiant candidates and carbon stars; the supergiant candidates are followed up with 8-color photometry and spectroscopy with collaborators Bob Wing (Ohio State) and Edgardo Costa (U. de Chile), and we have found somewhat over 100 new sgs. There are also hundreds of new carbon stars on the plate material. Another interest is the use of the scans made by the CASB group of plates over several epochs for determination of proper motions of various stellar groups, work in progress with Ramon Williamson. Lastly, I will show a strong line in a STIS spectrum of a hot star which is expected but has never been seen before.
