About STSci's User Committees

We support science and scientists.

STScI supports user committees for its missions as a key interface between the operating agencies (NASA/ESA/CSA) and the worldwide user community. The committees meet on a regular basis, typically twice a year, and provide feedback to STScI and the mission senior project scientists on all aspects of observatory operations. Committee members are drawn from the respective user communities and typically serve for three years.

  • Space Telescope Users Committee (STUC)

The HST Space Telescope Users Committee (STUC) advises on Hubble's operations, instrumentation, and policies to maximize its scientific output. Reports and presentations from past STUC meetings are available to download.

  • JWST Users Committee (JSTUC)

The JWST Users Committee (JSTUC) provides advice on the observatory as a whole to ensure that its operations proceed as expected to maximize scientific performance. Reports and presentations from past JSTUC meetings are available to download.

  • Roman Science User Panel (RSUP)

The Roman Science User Panel (RSUP) was convened in December 2025, on behalf of the Roman Project at NASA/GSFC, the Science Operations Center at STScI, and the Science Support Center at IPAC. The RSUP provides advice and feedback on all aspects of Roman operations and represents all segments of the U.S. and international scientific communities.

  • MAST Users Group (MUG)

The MAST Users Group (MUG) provides essential user perspectives on archive operations and development, including suggesting priorities for short and long term operational and scientific enhancements. Reports and presentations from past MUG meetings are available to download.
