Subject: Miss Casey/your website for class of 64 Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2005 22:54:09 -0800 From: Karen Fite To: bond@stsci.edu Ann Hofstra Grogg kindly sent me copies of the emails which circulated about Margaret Casey's death. I have kept in touch with her over all these years and saw her most recently this past April. I knew she was ill and made the trip from Seattle to visit her in conjunction with taking a granddaughter to Spain. We had a wonderful afternoon with Margaret and her sisters Eleanor and Doris. Merrill, my 16 year old grandgirl was charmed by Margaret and her sisters -- and Margaret had, at 96 and even in her illness, her wonderful way of enjoying and inspiring youth. Do you all remember her sense of humor? One of my favorite memories is the April Fool's joke when Routt Reigart was teaching Dover Beach to the class and we all responded to his carefully crafted socratic questions with ridiculous misreadings of the poem. I don't know if you can post or forward this for me -- hi to all my friends. I was one of the twice blessed, as I had Margaret for freshman and senior English, and no teacher before or since meant as much to me. Her picture sits in my office as I work with the MA students I advise and both inspires me and makes me despair of ever being one-half the teacher she was. I would be happy to have you post my email address and love to hear from people. Hi Ann, Hi Judy, Hi Cathy, Hi Friedner, Hi Ed. I have been in touch with Laurie Giberman, Nancy Blum, Peggy Dirks Micheal, Betsy Clapp Agle within the last several years. I think this website it wonderful. I would be happy to talk with Eleanor and Doris about any kind of memorial we were considering if we wanted their input. Karen Fite (206) 729-9134 5025 17th Ave NE Seattle WA 98105
