My research takes a broad-based approach to trying to understand the workings of radio galaxies and blazars. The projects I am undertaking in pursuit of this goal include both a deep investigation of the M87 jet, as well as DXRBS, a deep survey for blazars. The M87 jet exhibits several superluminal regions, with v=2-6c, and some of those same regions are flat-spectrum. Many regions of the jet are highly (up to 60%) polarized. The high apparent speeds seen in the jet are important verification of unified schemes. DXRBS, meanwhile, has found more faint blazars than all previous surveys combined, and has discovered a new class of high-energy peaked flat-spectrum radio quasars.
