NGC 602. This young cluster, about 5 Million years old, is about 26.6 parsec (90 light years) acros . It is located at a distance of 62 kpc (196 kly). The cluster is located in the Small Magellanic Cloud, a companion galaxy to the Milky Way. There are three main clumps of stars in the cluster. The main cluster group is called NGC602a and contains the brightest stars near the nebulosity. NGC602b is away from the core of the cluster. The third grouping is nearby. The bright stars in the core of NGC602 are pushing much of the original gas and dust away due to radiation and shocks. Due to the compression of the material, new star formation is triggered.
