NGC2207 and IC2163 . These two colliding galaxies are in the process of merging. Remarkably they are still intact as separate galaxies, signalling that this scene captures the early phase of interaction, but elongation of spiral arms show tidal influence. The pair were discovered by John Herschel 1835 in the constellation Canus Major. They are 80 million light years away. Original 1999 HST release on NGC2207and IC2163.
