General Observer Programs in Cycle 3

The proposals listed below establish the program for JWST’s third year of science operations. Approximately 5,500 hours of prime time and up to 1,000 hours of parallel time — as well as 25 archival and 12 theory proposals — were awarded to observing programs in Cycle 3. STScI hosted the Cycle 3 Telescope Allocation Committee in January-February 2024. The meeting was held in three stages:

  • The smallest proposals (<15 hours duration) were distributed to 250 external reviewers who graded them independently;
  • The remaining small proposals (15 to 25 hours) and medium proposals (>25 to 75 hours) were reviewed by topical panels, meeting virtually from January 29th to February 2nd;
  • And the Large (>75 hours), Treasury and Legacy proposals were reviewed by the Executive Committee, comprising the topical panel chairs, at-large members, and the TAC Chair, who met in person at STScI from February 5th to 7th.
